Congressman Mike Amesbury has been charged with assault after a video showed him knocking a man to the ground in the street.
The Crown Prosecution Service said the charges against the 55-year-old man related to a reported assault on a 45-year-old man in Frodsham, Cheshire, on October 26.
The suspended Labor backbencher has been summoned to appear in court after the charges were approved, but the date and location of his first court appearance have yet to be confirmed.
A spokesman for Cheshire Police said the charge came after an assault was reported in the Cheshire town’s Main Street at around 02:48 BST.
