One of Britain’s best-known TV actors says she hopes a talent search will help raise funds for community theaters in Norfolk.

Suranne Jones, who stars in BBC dramas Doctor Foster and The Watch, said she would support the initiative by running a scriptwriting competition for local writers.
Funds will be raised through the sale of tickets to performances of the winning productions, followed by onstage remarks by theater chairman Jones.
“It will combine finding talent in the community with making money,” she said.
Jones is best known for ITV’s Coronation Street, Became chairman of the Little Theater earlier this year.
Theater director Debbie Thompson said she welcomed the support following the “double whammy” of changes to employer national insurance contribution rules and a rise in the national minimum wage.

She said the two measures would cost the theater an extra £25,000 a year.
“This happened in the aftermath of COVID and then we had the cost of living crisis – which is still ongoing.”
Mrs Thompson said the playwriting competition would launch next year and she thanked Jones for his support.
“She was very hands-on because she definitely saw the value of community theater and that’s how she got started,” she said.
“She is truly a God-send.”
