The trailer opens with sinister masked guards welcoming new characters to the competition.
They’re sent into their first game, the same familiar one from season one: red light, green light.
Despite Ki-hoon’s efforts to guide the team members across the finish line to safety, things take a fatal turn.
Like Season 1, players can vote to stop or continue playing. Although Ki-hoon encouraged them to focus on “getting out of this place,” the players ignored his pleas.
“There’s one more game,” they chanted as cash prizes filled a giant piggy bank hanging above their heads.
Director Hwang Dong-hyuk said: “Ki-hoon’s struggle to find out who these people are and why they do what they do is the core story of season two.”
Also returning are Black Mask’s mysterious frontman who oversees the game, and detective Huang Junhao who broke into the game last season to find his missing brother.
Donghyuck previously said he felt “a lot of pressure” to make the second season “better” after the show’s huge success.
Netflix also announced that the final third season will be released in 2025.
The second season of Squidward will be released on Netflix on December 26, 2024.
