Greater Manchester’s mayor Andy Burnham has confirmed that one-way fares on the Greater Manchester bus network will remain capped at £2 until 2025, despite fare increases across the country.

Burnham said: “We are continuing with our plans to introduce a new simpler, flatter fare structure based on a single fare of £2.
“That said, only by mid-2025, when we have completed the first phase of the Bee Network and we know the level of government funding we have, will we be able to judge the financial prospects of the new system.”
A London-style contactless payment system with daily and weekly payment caps will be launched in March, the mayor said.
London’s buses will also be exempted from rising fare caps.
