The Prime Minister has said footage emerged of MP Mike Amesbury appearing to knock a man to the ground as “shocking”.
Mr Amesbury has been suspended and withdrawn as Labor whip after CCTV footage emerged on Sunday.
Sir Keir Starmer said the party “moved quickly” to respond after the video was released.
He added: “The police are now investigating and under the circumstances you will understand I have nothing to say about it.”

Cheshire Police said a 55-year-old man had voluntarily been interviewed under caution in relation to the incident and has since been released pending further enquiries.
In footage obtained by the Daily Mail, Councilors Runcorn and Helsby apparently continue to beat the man as he lies in the street.
Amesbury has been contacted for comment.
Another footage posted on X purportedly shows Amesbury shouting and swearing at the man lying in a street in Frodsham, Cheshire.
The MP was first elected to the House of Commons in 2010, representing Weaver Valley.
At the last election he was elected in the redrawn constituency of Runcorn and Helsby.
He was elected in July’s general election with a majority of 14,696 votes.
He has served as shadow housing secretary and currently sits on two House of Commons committees – the Housing Communities and Local Government Committee and the Modernization Committee.
In July 2023, a 56-year-old man was found guilty of stalking and harassment Amesbury at his constituency office and around town.
The Manchester-born MP has worked as a careers adviser with Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner and Greater Manchester Metro Mayor Andy Burnham.
