Jeremy Clarkson has revealed he underwent heart surgery after his health “suddenly deteriorated”.
He wrote in a column in The Sunday TimesThe 64-year-old said that after returning from vacation, he felt “cold and clammy”, his chest was “tight” and his left arm was “numbing”.
Clarkson, who hosts the TV show “Clarkson Farm,” said he took an ambulance to the hospital and was fitted with a stent, which can open narrowed or blocked arteries.
“I certainly didn’t have a heart attack. But if it hadn’t been for that, I never would have been taken to the hospital,” he said.
While on holiday in the Indian Ocean, the Oxfordshire farmer described how he “took a moment to make sure my limbs were working properly” when standing up, swam “with difficulty” and couldn’t get down stairs “without any help”. human hand”.
“These problems all manifested themselves in one day, which made the rest of my vacation very relaxing because all I did was sit in a chair drinking wine and eating cheese,” he said in the column.
“However, back home, things suddenly worsened and started to accelerate,” he said. “I woke up Wednesday morning not feeling great. I was clammy and my chest was tight.”
The former Top Gear presenter said he “ignored things” and later “felt numbness in my left arm”.
He was taken to John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, where he underwent tests including an electrocardiogram (ECG), blood tests and X-rays to rule out a heart attack.
“It seemed like one of the arteries that carried nourishing blood to my heart was completely clogged, and the second of the three was heading in that direction,” he said.
Clarkson said he had a stent installed, a tube inserted into a narrowed or blocked artery that opens it up to allow blood to flow more freely.
“I went home the next morning and here I am two hours later, writing this and thinking, ‘Gee, that was close,'” he said.
“Now, thanks to all the great people at the John Radcliffe Institute in Oxford and all their extraordinary machines, I wonder what water tastes like and whether it’s possible to make celery interesting.”
Clarkson previously revealed he had to quit smoking after contracting pneumonia while on holiday in Spain.
He left TV show The Grand Tour in September, along with TV presenter Richard Hammond and TV presenter James May.
