The teenage son of British photojournalist Paul Lowe has been charged with murder.
Mr Lowe, 61, an award-winning photographer who captured conflicts including the siege of Sarajevo during the Bosnian war (1992-95), was found stabbed to death on a hiking trail in California on Saturday .
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office confirmed that his 19-year-old son, Emile, has been charged with murder.
Los Angeles County medical examiner records show Mr. Lowe was stabbed in the neck, the PA reported.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department told PA: “The District Attorney’s Office filed a murder charge against suspect Emir Lowe for the murder of his father, Christian Paul Lowe.
“There is no further information at this time.”
The department added that Emile Lowe will make his first appearance in a West Covina courthouse on Wednesday.
According to police, the incident occurred at around 15:28 on Bald Mountain Road near Stoddard Canyon Falls.
A statement from the Sheriff’s Department said officers responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon and found “a white male adult suffering from injuries to his upper torso.”
Emergency services pronounced Mr Lowe dead at the scene.
The Sheriff’s Department added: “A white male adult was seen driving away from the scene and was involved in a separate traffic accident several miles away. The man has been detained pending further investigation.”
Mr Lowe, a visiting professor of war studies at King’s College London, said the acclaimed photojournalist would be “deeply missed”.
“It is with great sadness that we receive the news of the passing of Professor Paul Lowe,” one Statement posted on X read.
