Former President Barack Obama called on Americans to vote for Kamala Harris, warning that the White House race between her and Donald Trump is less than a month away.
At a campaign rally in the battleground state of Pennsylvania on Thursday in Pittsburgh, he urged viewers to “put down your cell phones… grab your friends and family and vote for the current Democratic vice president in the U.S. election on November 5.”
Obama also attacked Republican rival Trump on various issues including the economy and abortion.
Meanwhile, Trump campaigned on Thursday in Detroit, Michigan, another battleground state, accusing the Joe Biden-Kamala Harris administration of “destroying our country.”
The U.S. presidential election is expected to be decided by a handful of states, including Pennsylvania, where both candidates have a chance to win.
“This election is going to be fierce because there are so many Americans who are still struggling,” Obama said in a speech at the University of Pittsburgh.
“This is not just about policies on the ballot. This is about values,” he added.
He denounced Trump as a selfish politician who only cares about “his ego, his money and his status.”
“He’s not thinking about you,” he said, accusing Trump of “trying to dismantle” the Affordable Care Act – key legislation that millions of Americans rely on.
In July, shortly after Biden announced his decision to withdraw from the White House race, the 44th President of the United States and his wife Michelle Obama publicly supported Harris.
Trump, meanwhile, addressed a crowd in Detroit for more than an hour, discussing a wide range of topics from voting rules to tariffs on China.
Much of his speech focused on his assertion that the U.S. auto industry is failing — part of his broader message that the U.S. economy is suffering.
“They are destroying our country,” he said of the Biden-Harris administration. Accused the company of failing auto workers and claimed too many jobs had been moved to Mexico.
Also on Thursday, Democratic candidate Kamala Harris was in Nevada trying to win over Latino voters.
