The last surviving actor from the first Doctor Who series has said she hopes to return to the show as the 60th anniversary of her final appearance approaches.
Carole Ann Ford, from Ilford, played Susan, the granddaughter of William Hartnell’s Doctor, when the BBC show launched in 1963. This character was frequently mentioned in the recent Ncuti Gatwa series.
During an appearance at Luton Comic Con, the actress said she would like to return, although she admitted it would be “very exciting… very exciting”.
“I don’t know if I can really handle the excitement, it’s going to be so intense,” she said.
The 84-year-old man is the successor Death of William Russell June.
She said: “This is not just a return, it will bring back all the memories of William Russell, Jackie and Bill [William Hartnell] and others who are no longer with us.
“I probably got a little overwhelmed and started crying.
“I’m constantly reminded that I’m the last one standing, and that’s not something I’m happy to hear.”
She appears as the granddaughter of the original Doctor, played by William Hartnell, but was left behind after a showdown with the Daleks Set in Bedfordshire and broadcast on December 26, 1964.
At the time, the Doctor promised to come back to save her, but despite appearing in the 20th Anniversary Special five doctorsa story involving a reunion between characters that has yet to happen.
“He said he would come back to pick me up, but he never did. If I see him again, I will teach him a lesson,” she said.
“I understand their plight and how difficult it must be to write for me. It’s been 60 years since I first set foot in this field.
“I met Russell [T Davies] Several times, I like him very much. He’s the boss who can say yes or no – so hopefully it will be a yes.
Last year, the character returned to screens New color version A clip from the 1963 episode of The Daleks, which aired on BBC Four to mark the show’s 60th anniversary.
The actress encouraged fans to loudly support her return if she ever gets the chance.
In an interview with BBC Three Counties Radio, she hinted she had had “one or two” conversations about the return in the past.
“I’ve had a lot of conversations about going back, maybe not with the right people, I don’t know,” she added.
When it was suggested that her character could be recast, she joked: “Better not, I’d burn down the studio.”
