Hurricane Helene was one of the largest storms to hit the U.S. Gulf Coast, with wind gusts of 140 mph (225 km/h).
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office in Florida shared video of rescue efforts as floodwaters trapped some residents in their homes and cars.
The storm has now moved through Georgia and has been downgraded, but officials are urging caution, saying the situation remains dangerous.
Three people are understood to have died in the two states.
