U.S. authorities have confirmed that rapper and hip-hop star Fatman Scoop has died of a heart attack.
In August, he collapsed on stage during a show in Connecticut and later died in hospital at the age of 56.
He suffered from hypertension and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, a spokesman for Connecticut’s Office of the Chief Medical Examiner told PA.
His real name is Isaac Freeman III and he is best known for his hit song “Be Faithful”, which reached number one in the UK in 2003, and for starring in 2015’s Celebrity Big Brother.
During his career, he also collaborated with many well-known artists, including Timbaland and David Guetta.
In a statement released at the time of his death, his family described him as “not just a world-class performer” but a “father, brother, uncle and friend”.
“He was a source of laughter, constant support, unwavering strength and courage in our lives,” the statement added.
Scoop was hailed as one of New York’s most influential hip-hop stars in the 1990s, and his management company MN2S said at the time of his death that his “legacy will live on through his timeless music.”
The spokesperson added: “Scoop is a beloved figure in the music industry and his work is enjoyed by countless fans around the world.
“His iconic voice, infectious energy and great personality left an indelible mark on the industry.”
