It turns out that Gabourey Sidibe has been busier than she had imagined since the start of the pandemic.
Not only is the Oscar-nominated actress engaged, she secretly married just over a year ago.
The “breaking news” was revealed during a telling interview on Monday’s Live with Kelly and Ryan, in which Sidibe revealed about her late-2020 engagement to now-husband Brandon Frankel and more details about their secret wedding in March 2021.
“The thing about weddings is I don’t like them. I don’t like them,” the “Precious” star explained to the host. “Here’s an example of how much I dislike them: I’m actually married. We got married over a year ago.
The news left Ryan Seacrest “confused,” while Kelly Ripa asked if this was indeed “breaking news.”
Entertainment executive Frankel appeared in the audience and confirmed the news by raising his hand to reveal his jeweled ring finger.
Sidibe went on to say that they got married “at the kitchen table” in a small ceremony “just us”.
She did allow that they would eventually have a wedding to appease her mother-in-law, but her distaste for such things stemmed from the fact that the actress’s own mother was a wedding singer, which meant she “went to a lot of weddings, uninvited “Come on” herself.
Frankel also posted a series of photos of the couple showing off their rings on his Instagram on Monday, writing: “Surprise! I can finally publicly call her my wife!
He went on to say that he felt “relieved that we could finally tell the world” after Sidibe “revealed the secret” on “Live.”
“So grateful to have found my forever partner, my partner in crime and the love of my life. Every day with you is the best day,” Frankel added. “Who would I rather have a cat with and go to bed at 8pm. Love you forever.”
